Tutorial System

In order to realize the vision and accomplish the mission of XJTLU, the University has adopted the Tutorial System which includes both personal tutors consisting of XJTLU academic staff, and mentors consisting of XJTU alumni and professionals from industries; and these two schemes are operated in parallel and complementing each other. This is a distinctive system that is never pre-existed and implemented in higher education both in China and abroad. Implementation of the system will be a brand-new approach to the model of educating talents.
Human-centered “Personal Tutoring Scheme”
The human-centered Personal Tutoring scheme seeks to contribute to the well being of students and to promote the sense of community, by nominating a personal tutor to individual student. Personal tutors should meet their tutees regularly and the personal tutorial slots are scheduled into Year 1 students’ timetables.
The University aims at overseeing the effective operation of the personal tutoring scheme. Senior tutor should ensure that all students receive a written statement of the purpose and operation of the personal tutoring scheme, ensure that all students have a nominated tutor, present an annual report to the appropriate Board or Department, be in attendance at the appropriate Department Progress Committee, and be a member of any appropriate staff/student committees.
Social-interactive “Mentor Scheme”

The Mentor Scheme is an attempt, and a supplement to the model of educating talents, with the objective of educating innovative graduates possess both skills in technology and business. The Mentor Scheme aims to establish an interaction platform for enterprises, students and the University. Mentors consist of professionals from different social sectors, who will provide guidance to students on career opportunities, and help students acquire capabilities and skills required for life-long development. The Mentor Scheme helps students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the course of learning to social practice and their professions, and bridges the distinctions between University life and real world. Mentor Scheme contributes to students’ development of a positive attitude towards society, career and life, and also the diversity of the University’s model of educating talents. Meanwhile, feedback from the operation of the Mentor Scheme could be beneficial to the University in improving its teaching quality, and reflecting the needs of social development in the content and approaches of it provision
