The Department

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is committed to research, teaching and learning excellence and offers an exciting, theoretical and practical range of degree programs addressing all of the major subject areas that underpin the new, IT-based modern economy. All degree programs have been developed on the basis of electrical and electronics-related degree programs at both the University of Liverpool and the other parent university, Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). Both universities have a wealth of experience in developing and maintaining degree programmes that have been proven to serve the needs of industry as well as modern, research-based development.

We offer students a distinguished education in the following ways:

• Student learning is well-supported by excellent computing facilities and an extensive internal website, which includes downloadable lecture notes, course notes, laboratory scripts.

• Design-and-build projects in year three and four give the students hands-on experience in practical application and problem solving. We actively encourage final year projects linked to industry and research.

• Each student is assigned to a personal tutor who can offer help and advice.

• Scholarships and prizes are available based on academic performance.

• Most academic staffs actively engage in research and work closely with industry partners. This ensures that students are given the most up-to-date and practical education.

This department aims to develop graduates who are competent in the fundamentals of electrical/electronic engineering with wider transferable skills (communication, team-working, organisational awareness, project management etc.) and able to meet the needs of a wide spectrum of employers both within and outside the specialized sector.

We are here to provide an intellectually stimulating, rigorous, challenging and rewarding experience for the students along with exposure to state-of-the-art tools for developing their academic potential.
