August - The graduation ceremony of XJTLU’s first cohort of undergraduates was held on August 6th. Many distinguished guests including Professor Jianhua Wang and Sir Howard Newby attended the momentous occasion. - XJTLU held the 2010 opening ceremony on August 22nd at Dushu Lake Gymnasium. It welcome more than 1,700 as its fifth cohort of students, bringing the grand total for the university to over 4200.
- National Natural Science Foundation of China released the first listed projects to be funded for the year 2010, including 2 from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. - The New Science Building was put into use for Teachers and Students at the beginning of the new semester. - The enrollment of XJTLU students in 2010 included over 50 new overseas students from U.S., U.K., Japan and Indonesia.

- After a delegation was sent from UoL, we received accreditation for Taught Postgraduate Provision on October 20th. - The University’s New Year Concert was held in Building 1 on December 14th for the New Year’s celebrations. - XJTLU invests a record RMB 6 million devoted to research for the academic year.
- Dr. Xuanwei Cao of XJTLU became the 1st Qing-Lan project awarded to XJTLU on the 30th December. 2011 January
- Dr. Chieh-Ying (Vincent) Chang from the Department of Languages and Culture was appointed as an honorary research associate by the Imperial College London, UK. He would collaborate with Dr. Jorge Diaz-Cintas of Imperial College London for an international project concerning how people process and recognize metaphorical words . - Xi’an Jiaotong – Liverpool University tops the list of Top 10 Sino-Foreign Cooperative Universities, which was announced during an Education Forum held by xinhuanet.com in Beijing on Jan. 18, 2011. March - On 15th March, XJTLU Simultaneous Interpreting Lab was launched. The facilities of this lab are of high quality and level within Suzhou and even the whole Yangtze River Delta.
Apirl - In order to express sincere appreciation for Professor Michael Fang, former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, for his contribution to the founding and development of XJTLU, the University awarded him “Honorary Professor “ and he is also the first “Honorary Professor “ of the University. - The results of the 2011 U.S Mathematical Contest in Modelling were released on April 6th. Fifty-one teams from XJTLU participated in the Contest, of which 9 won the title "Meritorious Winner", 14 the "Honorable Mentions" and 28 the "Successful Participant". May - A paper, “Towards a Language Based Synthesis of NCL Circuits”, written by XJTLU senior student Wenjie ZENG, in collaboration with his supervisor Dr. Ka Lok Man, was collected by the 2011 International Multi Conference for Engineers and Computer Scientists (IMECS 2011). - On 31st May, Sylvia Franke joined XJTLU as Director of Centre for Academic Affairs, working with the Vice President (Academic Affairs). She will lead operational management and day-to-day coordination of the relationships between Registry, Research Office, and academic departments and teaching centres, within the Centre for Academic Affairs. June - A research paper, titled “The Development of B2B E-marketing in Jiangsu Province, China: Opportunities and Strategies for SMEs”, co-authored by the University’s Year 4 students Changwei Zhang and Yuan Yuan, has recently been accepted by the International Business Information Management Association Conference (IBIMA). - On 11th June, XJTLU held the 2011 Open Day, providing consulting services regarding admission policies, information about specific disciplines and specialties to the prospective students and their parents. - XJTLU launched first research development fund (RDF) distribution for 2010/2011 and the total fund is 6 million RMB July - The University launched its first Sino-British research seminar on applied linguistics on July 6th, 2011. Professor Michael Hoey, VP of UoL was invited to keynote this seminar. - Based on the ‘Liver Bird’ of Liverpool, 4 students have created an original and playful cartoon character ‘silly bird’, After its publication on several social network websites popular with students, the serial comics attracted nearly 6,000 fans within a month. All the team were focused and reported by Chinese media. - The Fifth Anniversary of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) & Opening Ceremony of XJTLU Education Development Foundation was held in XJTLU. - 2nd Graduation Ceremony of XJTLU was held. 513 graduates were granted two Bachelor’s Degrees from both Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and the University of Liverpool, UK. August - Dr. Thomas Fischer of XJTLU Architecture Department received the Warren McCulloch Award for his achievements in the field of cybernetics during the annual conference of the American Society for Cybernetics (ASC) in Richmond, Indiana on Aug 30th. - XJTLU planned to recruit 2000 undergraduates from 30 provinces (except Guangdong province) for year 2011, while the final intake actually reached 2218. It is also the first year for the University to recruit students from Tibet Autonomous Region and one student is finally admitted. - The 16th World Congress of Applied Linguistics was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University from August 23 to 28, 2011. Dr. Zhoulin Ruan and Dr. Penny Ding of the Department of Languages and Culture of XJTLU, and Dr. Bin Zou, Dr. Katherine Cao of the English Language Centre of XJTLU gave paper presentations at the Congress. - Suzhou-Ghana Science and Technology Research Center established
