Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP)

Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) is the largest cooperative project of priority between Chinese and Singaporean governments and saw its debut in February 1994 as certified by the State Council of PRC.


Investment
With only 3.4% of the total land and 5% of the total population of Suzhou, SIP contributes around 16% of Suzhou's GDP.

Four "Hundreds of Billions" achievements: In 2009, the amount of GDP, accumulated taxes, utilized foreign capital and registered RMB capital exceeded hundreds of billions RMB respectively. By end of 2009, 79 Fortune 500 companies have made investment in SIP with a total of 125 projects. Over 100 projects have investment exceeding 100 million USD. The investment intensity amounts to 1.7 billion USD per sq km in the China-Singapore Cooperation Zone.

Environmentally friendly
SIP environment has been approved by ISO14000, being recognized as one of the first group of national ecological demonstration parks. The greenery coverage rate of SIP exceeds 45%. The standard coal consumption is 0.34 tons per 10,000 RMB, which is 1/4 of the national average level. The emission of COD and SO2 in SIP is 1/18 and 1/40 respectively of the national average amount.

Research and development
The percentage of R&D input in GDP proportion increases 0.5 points annually, and reached 4.2% in 2009.
 
Over 3 million sqm of functional incubators have been built up; 384 high-tech enterprises and 160 R&D institutions have settled in; 10 innovation bases of national level and over 20 public service platforms have been ready in SIP.
 
An innovation and entrepreneurship base for high-level talents returning from overseas. The number of patent applications increases 50% annually, and over half of the total are patents for invention.
 


 
Science and Education Innovation District

 
Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District is a core development programme for the upgrade and transformation of SIP’s economic structure. The whole area measures 25 km2 with an estimated population of 400 thousand (including 100 thousand students). Aiming to build up a comprehensive system of “Production-Learning-Research” within this area, SEID put priorities on supporting hi-tech industries such as Nano Technology, Bio-Medicine, Integrated Communication, Software, Outsourcing Services and Animation. It is planned to become a national New & Hi-Tech Industrial Development District and a national-level innovation base.
 
Since it was founded in 2002, Dushu Lake SEID has achieved its primary goal of integrating education, research & development, new industries within this new and modern district of Suzhou city.
 
Currently there are 18 higher education organisations settled in SEID, including University of Science and Technology of China, Renmin University, Nanjing University, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and so on. The area also has attracted over 3,500 high-level academic staff and around 70,000 full-time students.
