Research in the Department of Biological Sciences focusses on molecular bioscience, with relevance to the biomedical, agricultural and environmental arenas. It is also supports the key research priorities of Suzhou Industrial Park, with the advanced application of biotechnology and bioengineering.Currently, we have expertise in bioinformatics, cell signalling; metabolic disease; microbiology; neuroscience; proteomics, structural biology and reproductive research. Other key areas will be covered as the Department develops. Areas of interest include:
- Translational medicine from target to drug discovery, such as pathway discovery, structure-based drug design and protein engineering
- Disease mechanisms and therapeutics of neurodegenerative (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, etc.) and metabolic disorders, hormone-dependent diseases, cancer and ageing
- Bioengineered microbes/biocatalysts and their environmentally friendly applications in Green Chemistry.
Academic staff also actively contribute to the XJTLU Research Institute of Biopharmaceutical Sciences.
