1. CRRC INTERNATIONAL TALENT-DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Company Background

Headquartered in Beijing, CRRC is the world’s largest supplier of rail-transit equipment with a comprehensive product lineup of the latest technologies. It has 46 wholly-owned and majority-owned subsidiaries, and over 180,000 employees. Its main businesses cover research and development (R&D), design, manufacture, repair, sale, lease and technical services for rolling stock, urban rail-transit vehicles, engineering machinery, all different types of electrical equipment, electronic equipment and parts, electric products and environmental-protection equipment, consulting services, industrial investment and management, and asset management. CRRC’s revenues in 2015 were USD37.8 billion, ranking it 266 on the Fortune Global 500 List.


Programme aims and objectives

The central aim of this training programme is to deliver highly interactive and practical management training on the topic of ‘equipping you with the skill sets to lead teams in an international context’. The following objectives have been devised to achieve this aim:

  • develop the ability to recognise core issues and challenges across a range of business topics from both a Chinese and Western perspective
  • reinforce international skill sets, particularly in the areas of communication, managing cross-cultural business relationships, and innovation
  • improve cultural awareness and interpersonal skills when leading international teams comprising of Chinese and overseas employees, and learn how to build trusting and efficient cooperation with local teams in the respective countries
  • provide uniquely tailored opportunities to engage with and seek advice from experts in international business
  • learn how to negotiate to achieve win–win outcomes with overseas customers, ensure CRRC is appropriately protected against risks, and gain needed understanding and sensitivity regarding the legal aspects of international railway business
  • ensure that you can clearly and confidently communicate in an international environment.

Programme implementation

The programme comprises the two stages briefly described below. The first stage (4 month training programme in Suzhou)builds a strong foundation of practical and relevant skills for leading teams within today’s international business dynamic; the second stage (1 month overseas programme on culture and business) focuses on the application of critical learning and skills through an interactive overseas trip.

2. SODEXO SITE MANAGER TRAINING PROGRAMME

Company Background

Sodexo is a French food service and facilities management company. It is one of the world’s largest multinational corporations, with 420,000 employees that represent 130 nationalities, and are present on 34,000 sites in 80 countries. Sodexo serves many sectors, including private corporations, government agencies, schools from preschools through to universities, hospitals, military bases, and prisons.

Programme aims and objectives

The primary aim of this course is to help participants understand the strategic fundamentals of a service company—ranging from the company’s mission and vision to its business model and value proposition.

Programme implementation

Teaching is highly interactive, with a focus on facilitating the direct application of techniques by learners in their own organisations. This course centres on building the following skill sets:

  • ability to relate one’s job role to Sodexo’s strategy
  • ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of Sodexo’s business model
  • ability to apply the various components of Sodexo’s value proposition and understand the components’ true value from a customer/client perspective.

3. GSEP, SEOUL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY SUMMER CAMP

Company Background

The Graduate School of Engineering Practice (GSEP) is incorporated in Seoul National University. Seoul National University is a national research university located in Seoul, the capital of Korea. It is widely considered the most prestigious university in the country. In its current form, the university was founded in 1946. Thus, it is the oldest national university in the country. The university comprises sixteen colleges, one graduate school, and nine professional schools. The student body consists of nearly 17,000 undergraduate and 12,000 graduate students.

Programme aims and objectives

The central aim of this programme is to deliver a one-week, highly interactive and practical programme to GSEP on the topic of ‘Strategy and Doing Business in China’. To achieve this aim, IBSS proposes to deliver the following:

  • design and delivery of training for a one-week long summer camp
  • inclusion of at least one day for a company visit and culture tour
  • programme management and administrative support.

Programme implementation

This programme is comprised of five days of interactive training, including one company visit and a cultural tour. Courses centre on cultivating core skills that can help develop each participant to become an active leader in an international context. Those core skills include strategic-thinking skills, communication skills, and cultural-awareness skills.
