Second National EAP Training Day: New Directions for EAP in China

Events

The XJTLU Language Centre is proud to announce its second National EAP Training Day. Our first EAP Training Day, held in November 2015, attracted more than 180 university teachers from across China. Building upon this success, this unique teacher training event is designed to assist English language teachers working within Chinese universities in developing English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classroom techniques that can be adapted to the Chinese Higher Education context.

The training day is designed to help teachers and managers further their understanding of EAP, student-centred practice and introduce ideas for developing an EAP curriculum and teaching materials. The training day will consist of a whole day of expert input, with an opening keynote speech, four different workshops streams, and a round table discussion session. Attendees can choose to attend three of the four workshops.

The workshops will be delivered in the same style as our NCTEAP (National Certificate in Teaching EAP), which means having at least two trainer in each and being trainee-centred and highly interactive.

Themes for 2017

We will be exploring the following themes in our workshops this year:

  • Developing an EAP curriculum and working with academic departments
  • EAP teaching techniques
  • Choosing and designing EAP teaching materials
  • Improving students’ writing, speaking and performance in assessments
  • Professional training and career development for the language expert.

Who is the EAP Teacher Training Day for?

The training day is perfect for teachers who are teaching in Chinese institutions which are moving towards teaching in a more EAP and skills-focused style. Also, those teachers who are new to teaching EAP and teachers who currently teach general English courses but are interested in moving into EAP teaching will also benefit, as will early service MA TESOL students.

Who are the trainers?

The Language Centre at XJTLU is one of the largest in Asia and has more than 170 teaching staff delivering EAP courses to students all the way from level one undergraduates to students undertaking PhDs. The Language Centre tutors are highly qualified and experienced in the latest innovations in EAP teaching and the training day includes experienced NCTEAP (National Certificate in Teaching EAP) trainers.

Do I get a certificate at the end of the training day?

Is there a limit on the number of people who can attend?
