The theme of the 2017 Sino-Foreign Collaborative Institutions Symposium is the delivery of English for Academic Purposes within China, in the context of educational internationalisation, an increase in English Medium Instruction (EMI) and an increasing focus on an applied skills-based approach to the teaching of English.
The symposium welcomes speakers from institutions across the continent that are leading the delivery of modern EAP curricula and programmes, on a range of topics which are of great relevance to language specialists in China today.
Speakers are invited to speak for 20 minutes. Presenters will present on a single topic related to the themes described below. Up to 10 minutes of questions and discussion will follow each presentation.
Presentations might address (but are not limited to) the following topics:
EAP AND THE WIDER INSTITUTION:
- Collaborating with academic departments; joint delivery of programmes and courses
- Working within specific academic discourse communities and with specific communicative genres
EAP AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES:
- EAP and new technologies
- Developments in corpus linguistics and EAP
INNOVATIVE PRACTICE IN EAP:
- New EAP teaching techniques in a Chinese context
- Innovative EAP assessments.
Abstracts for individual presentations should be between 200 and 300 words. Please submit your abstracts to: [email protected].
Submissions are due Tuesday 31 January 2017. Applicants will be notified of results by Friday 3 February 2017. All speakers need to accept invitations and register by Tuesday 28 February 2017.
