Function spaces are objects of study in topology and related areas. Particularly interesting examples are spaces of knots and links and other embedding spaces. Configuration spaces of ordered points in a given space are also embedding spaces, but they are (relatively) easier to understand, and we can approach general embedding spaces through them via a theory of calculus of functors, which is analogous to the calculus of functions we teach our undergraduate students. In this talk, I'll explain these backgrounds and state some open problems. Hopefully, they would interest the audience.
