Climathon Suzhou 2017

Events

China’s economy is experiencing rapid growth in the last decades. On the one hand, it creates a lot of new commercial and cultural formats and possibilities to improve people’s lives such as the strong e-commerce platforms and online payment gateways. On the other hand, however, it also brings new challenges to the social, cultural, as well as environmental areas.

Suzhou is one of the cities in China which has a brilliant history in terms of literature and scholar culture. It is also called one of the most beautiful cities in China. Nevertheless, facing the rapid economic growth, Suzhou is also encountering many environmental problems such as pollution and climate change.

For instance, the popularity of online shopping, food delivery, and sharing bicycles make life easier and more convenient, but at the same time, they also create a lot of environmental problems including wastage of food and materials, create a lot of garbage, and so on. On the other hand, Suzhou has many traditional cultures and architectures that are under threatening by the urban development, how to preserve them and revival these cultural heritages to meet the needs of our modern times is also a challenge.

The Climathon Suzhou 2017 will focus on developing innovative solutions to tackle the above challenges. Adopting the concept of Circular Economy, the participants will create and develop new and innovative concepts to solve the environmental problems and achieve the sustainable development of the city.
