“W•E SALON” EVENT I: Leading a Radio Station in America

XJTLU Museum presents a series of lectures and activities for XJTLU students and staff to extend their insight about learning, career and even the life. Besides “W•E Talks” and “W•E Musicale”, “W•E Salon” is another new program which is oragnised by XJTLU Museum. Renowned artists, entrepreneurs, talk show actors, authors and scholars who are widely recognized for their achievements in different fields will be invited to “W•E Salon”. Here comes the first “W•E Salon” event.

XJTLU Museum invites Xiaoyuan SU, the founder of the Chinese Radio Seattle to give a lecture about his experience of developing the Chinese Radio Seattle.

Xiaoyuan Su

Xiaoyuan Su was born in Suzhou, China and graduated from Zhejiang University in 1995. He taught at Suzhou University for seven years before he studied abroad in 2002. He obtained a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Alberta, as well as a Ph.D in Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University and a MBA at University of Washington. While working as a senior data analyst for Nuance Communications, a public company, between 2008 and 2014, he founded the Chinese Radio Seattle in May 2012. His radio network was awarded the highest prize at the China Business Challenge in April 2014, an entrepreneurship championship held by the Chinese Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance. Following an external investment in June 2014, Su was appointed as the president and director of the Chinese Radio Seattle. A winner of the Luyao Youth Literature Award in China, he has published a collection of essays titled A Seagull on the West Lake and more than 60 articles on Yangzi Evening News, Yangcheng Evening News, Xinmin Evening News, Ming Pao Daily New and College Students. He has also authored Collaborative Filtering Using Machine Learning and Statistical Techniques and is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. After founding the Chinese Radio Seattle, he has won the Mayor’s Award of Seattle twice and the Excellence Award at the Global Chinese Radio Program Championship during the Shanghai Radio Festival in 2017.
