XJTLU to welcome over 4000 new students

August 23, 2017

This September, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is set to welcome over 3,500 new undergraduate and almost 470 new postgraduate students recruited from across China and around the world.

Of the total number of students, 3,340 undergraduate students have been recruited from the 31 provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China, primarily through the Gaokao, the Chinese higher education entrance examination, while nearly 270 students have been recruited from all over the world for undergraduate and postgraduate study.

The quality of Chinese undergraduate students being admitted to XJTLU reflects the trend that this year average Gaokao scores in most provinces rose to a higher level than in 2016. XJTLU is especially popular among candidates and their parents in provinces that piloted Gaokao reforms, such as Zhejiang and Shandong provinces, with even the lowest scores of new students from these regions far exceeding the undergraduate admission line.

The University is offering two new undergraduate programmes this year, Beng Mechatronics and Robotic Systems and BA International Relations, that are categorised by the Ministry of Education as part of Industrial Technology and Humanities and Social Sciences subject areas respectively. These two new programmes bring the total number of undergraduate programmes offered by XJTLU to 37.

Beng Mechatronics and Robotic Systems is a collaborative programme offered by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in association with the departments of Industrial Design, Computer Science and Software Engineering, and Civil Engineering. The programme focuses on the application and development of intelligent and automated electromechanical technology in accordance with the government’s Made in China 2025 strategy.

The BA International Relations programme recruits students from around the world who are interested in global economics, politics, history, culture and international relations, and will be significant in cultivating international talents at the University.

The direct entry system that allows students from Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces to apply to XJTLU without depending solely on their Gaokao scores accepted 247 candidates this year. Competition among candidates in Guangdong is fierce, and due to the number of outstanding candidates from that province a higher number of new students were admitted than anticipated in the University’s enrolment plan.

New students will register from 26th August, while the 2017 Opening Ceremony will be held on 27th August to officially welcome new students to XJTLU.
