New horizons for architectural collaborations

February 22, 2018

The new head of the Department of Architecture, Gisela Löhlein, together with staff of the Department visited Tus-Design Group Co Ltd and met with design directors as well as Director and CEO Jinrong Zha to discuss new strategic collaborations.

Expanding its area of operations far beyond the boundaries of SIP, Tus-Design Group grew out of the Suzhou Institute of Architectural Design originally established in 1953, and formally opened in March 2017.

With extensive experience in management of large architectural projects in the Middle East and as an expert in sustainable design and related technologies, Professor Löhlein has identified several areas in which the XJTLU Department of Architecture and Tus-Design Group will be able to productively join efforts in both education and research.

“Areas of shared interest will include green and sustainable design, façade design, digitally supported design as well as creating a forum for exchanges on design approaches to integrated design addressing design projects on a variety of scales, from detailing to large-scale master planning,” added Professor Loehlein.

For the latter, the Department of Architecture will collaborate closely with the newly founded Unity Studio, a design unit headed by Design Director and Dean of Industry Innovation Research Institute Baoshan Han.

Sharing Tus-Design group’s larger aspiration to play a leading role in developing high quality human habitats enhanced by environmental technology, the XJTLU Department of Architecture will establish regular exchanges with Tus-Design Group.

A delegation of Tus-Design Group will visit XJTLU in mid-March 2018 to be introduced to new developments at the Department of Architecture as well as to visit the new Design Building.
