Professor Eng Gee Lim, Dean of Research and Graduate Studies and member of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, has been made a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
The HEA (now part of Advance HE) is a British professional institution which champions teaching excellence and works with governments, ministries, universities and individual academics in the UK and around the globe.
The senior fellowship is recognition of Professor Lim’s achievements in learning and teaching in higher education, and his key contributions to high-quality student learning.
“It’s my great honour to receive this senior fellowship,” said Professor Lim. “I could not have achieved this without the support of my colleagues and students, and this honour also belongs to the University and the Department of EEE.”
Over the past 11 years, Professor Lim has undertaken various roles at XJTLU. He joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2007 as one of its founding members, bringing to it his experience as a chartered engineer. He was made assistant to the head of department in 2012, and then head of department from 2013 until 2016.
Under his leadership, the EEE department grew in size from 15 to 27 academic staff members, and student numbers grew from 800 to over 1,000. One of the key achievements during his time as HoD was the attainment of accreditation by the Institute of Engineering and Technology, UK (an institution of which Professor Lim is also a fellow).
In 2017, Professor Lim was appointed Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at XJTLU in recognition of his excellent leadership and management skills, as well as his outstanding research performance.
