Since its creation in October 2013, the Research Institute of Urbanisation has established formal research relations with local governments in Jiangsu Province as well as with outstanding national and international research institutes:
- The XJTLU-Huaian Research Institute of New-type Urbanisation received RMB 1.5 million funding from Huaian government
- The RIU is involved in setting up the new XJTLU-Wujiang Taihu New City Research Institute (WTNCRI), which has received RMB 1.6 million funding support from the Wujiang government
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in December 2014 between XJTLU-RIU and UNESCO-WHITRAP (World Heritage Institute for Training and Research for the Asia-Pacific Region) with the main objective of studying the implementation of the UNESCO concept of Historic Urban Landscape in China and, in particular, forms of private-public partnerships (PPPs) for sustainable heritage management
- An agreement was signed on 23 October 2014 between XJTLU-RIU and CODEV-EPFL, Cooperation and Development Center of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (Switzerland), for the study of sustainable development of intermediate cities in China.
In addition, the RIU regularly organises and supports various guest lectures, seminars, symposiums, and international conferences dealing with contemporary urban challenges.
