External Collaborations
Function Introduction

Since the establishment, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) has been persisting in running the University with an open model, and carrying out cooperation and exchange with all circles. The University has established partnership with a number of organizations both at home and abroad, and also carries out academic exchange with many research institutes. The University’s partners are highly specialized organizations and influential institutions of teaching or research in certain disciplines or fields. In addition to strengthening and developing existing cooperation and exchange with other universities, the University has been continuously extending international cooperation in operation and devoting major efforts to educating international professionals in recent years.
In order to realize the University’s vision to “become a research-led international university in China and a Chinese university recognized internationally for her unique features”, XJTLU has established relationships with a great number of world famous scholars and experts. The University cooperates with various overseas organizations in scientific research and advanced studies, and attends various academic conferences every year.
Objectives

The Centre for Development & External Affairs (CDEA) will integrate any internal and external resources to facilitate cooperation and exchange between XJTLU and all circles for mutual complementation of advantages and common development. CDEA will obtain more educational resources, create a sound external environment and establish an international development platform to develop XJTLU into a first class international university.
In order to realize above-mentioned objectives, CDEA will:

be responsible for giving overall consideration to external liaison of the University and integrating any internal and external contact resources to create a sound external environment for the University’s construction and development;

be responsible for organizing and arranging reception of visitors and guests to the University;

develop relations with competent authorities at higher levels and governments to get more policy supports and resources for teaching, scientific research and development of the University, and provide a service platform of external liaison for teaching and research staff;

strengthen ties with all circles and strive to continuously expand the University’s social resources;

be responsible for management of international cooperation and exchange projects specifically supported by the Ministry of Education and XJTLU, as well as application for and examination of the special funds;

be responsible for liaison and development of various cooperation and exchange projects, as well as signing and management of cooperation agreements; and
-
award various honorary titles to eminent persons and scholars both at home and abroad.
Exchange Activities
Since the foundation, XJTLU has received a great number of visitors and delegations, such as the former Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Mr. Tung Chee Hwa who is an alumni of the University of Liverpool, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education Prof Wu Qidi, the Shadow Secretary of State for innovation, Universities & skills, UK Mr. David Willetts, Governor of Jiangsu Province Mr. Liang Baohua, and the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, UK Mr. John Denham, as well as the Scottish Education Delegation, the Delegation of Sci-Tech Cooperation Subcommittee of the Committee of China-Russia Prime Ministers' Regular Meeting, the North West England Trade Delegation, the UK House of Commons Delegation and the Delegation of Wirral, UK. A lot of educational institutions visited XJTLU to exchange experience in running the universities. They are the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Anhui University, Zhejiang Wanli University, Arizona State University, the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the Registration and Standards Department at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Deakin University, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Shanghai Office, Sichuan University, the University of Michigan, Tianjin University of Technology, Century College in Minnesota, National Chiao Tung University, Brunel University, the IET, the Polytechnic University in New York, the University of London, the University of Aizu, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Jinan University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Nankai University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), and the University of Alberta.
XJTLU has signed letters of intent for cooperation with Suzhou High School and Suzhou Experimental Middle School. Suzhou Municipal Office of Universities Admissions also sent delegations to visit the University. Besides, the University held a number of ceremonies and activities, for example, the celebration of first anniversary of XJTLU, the XJTLU Forum on Education Internationalization, the signing of strategic alliance agreement with Laureate Education, Inc.
