How to Apply

This section gives you information about how to apply if you are a prospective international student. Use this checklist to help you decide whether you are ready to submit an application.

Have you checked that you are eligible to apply as an international student?

Students of non-Chinese nationalities are eligible to apply as international students. Students of Chinese nationality, including residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, are not eligible to apply as international students.

Have you chosen the right programme?

Make sure that you have read the course information carefully as there are a lot of things to consider when you are choosing which programme to apply for. Think about the programme content, you need to be sure that the programme is right for you and that it covers the subjects that you are interested in. For a detailed description of the contents of all our programmes please visit the web-pages of the relevant department: www.xjtlu.edu.cn

Have you checked that your qualifications meet the course entry criteria?

The University accepts international students with a wide variety of school, college and foundation qualifications and particularly welcomes students with UK qualifications such as A-Levels, AS-Level, and other equivalent overseas qualifications.

Have you checked that you meet the English language requirements?

All students must have an acceptable English language qualification to study at the University. Various English qualifications are acceptable including:

  • IELTS: 5.5 for year 1 entry , or 6.5 for advanced standing
  • TOEFL 520 (paper-based), or 190 (computer-based) for year 1 entry
  • TOEFL 570 (paper-based), or 230 (computer-based) for advanced standing

Have you supplied references?

Please ensure that you submit references with your application form. At least one of these should be linked to your academic background, the other references can either be another academic reference or related to any work experience you may have.

Have you copied your documents and had them verified and translated?

It is essential that International Admissions Office staff have documents which have been verified by an official body and also translated into English (where necessary). Failure to do this will delay the admissions procedure as the documents will have to be returned to you.

Application documents normally required are:

1.        A fully completed Application Form for International Students (which can be downloaded here).

2.        Verified and translated certificates of education qualifications

3.        Verified and translated transcripts
