Two XJTLU Professors Engaged by Centre for Research and Development of College Mathematics Teaching

 

Recently, the Centre for Research and Development of College Mathematics Teaching was founded in Xi’an Jiaotong University. Prof Zhien Ma from Mathematics and Physics Teaching Centre at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) has taken the post of the Centre’s director. Prof Jingming Guo, also from the XJTLU Mathematics and Physics Teaching Centre, was engaged as a member of the Academic Committee. The first working conference of the Centre resolved that the XJTLU Mathematics and Physics Teaching Centre would lead the projects such as comparative study of Chinese and western college mathematics, and selection of data.

 

The Centre for Research and Development of College Mathematics Teaching is a nationwide open research institute jointly created by the Centre for Research on College Teaching, New Century Teaching Research Institute at the Ministry of Education, the Steering Committee of Teaching on Mathematics and Statistics at the Ministry of Education and Xi’an Jiaotong University. The Centre engages renowned professors who have been engaged in the study and reform of college mathematics teaching in China for a long time as the research fellow. The Centre will, based on the situation and development trend of college mathematics teaching and guided by scientific outlook on development, use the advanced education philosophy and successful experience both at home and abroad for reference and make deep study and exploration of the hot spots and difficulties in teaching reform. The Centre will summarize and promote its experience and achievements, train teachers, facilitate the development and reform of college mathematics courses in China, improve education quality and participate in teaching evaluation of college mathematics courses.

 

The Centre for Research and Development of College Mathematics Teaching has an Academic Committee responsible for overall planning, controlling the orientation and selecting projects. The Committee is chaired by Prof Daqian Li, a famous mathematician in China and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and has three deputy directors including Prof Zongben Xu, Vice President of Xi’an Jiaotong University and Director of the Steering Committee of Teaching on Mathematics and Statistics at the Ministry of Education.
