  • Introduction of the Model

Our efforts in the exploration of future educational model, build-up of network structure of knowledge organisations, cultivation of relationship between the university and the society, and the mission of exerting a strong influence on the development of education in China and the world have received critical acclaim and wide recognition both domestically and internationally. In this so-called XJTLU model 1.0, we learn the wisdom from both the Chinese and Western cultures. XJTLU takes reference from the flexibility offered by the American education, the emphasis on having a robust quality control system stemmed from the British system, and the focus on building fundamentals commonly seen in the Chinese system. We then integrate those key features into a new educational and quality control system that centers around the needs of students, by focusing on guiding interests, learning proactively, cultivating capabilities, integrating knowledge, and improving overall quality.

Looking forward, the university will continue to build upon the philosophies of the Syntegrative Education model to innovate and upgrade XJTLU 1.0, refining and optimizing an education model that aims to foster international specialized elites with industry expertise.

  • Intention of the Strategy

Focus on nurturing future industry leaders, by re-inventing syntegrative education for the 21st century.

  • Introduction of the Model

With the imminent arrival of a digital, AI and robotics-enabled era, XJTLU looked far into the future, by continuing to strengthen our existing educational model 1.0, while launching an entirely new model in 2017 known as Syntegrative Education (SE) to deliver international industry experts, with the ability to use AI and robotic technologies to lead future industry development. This is what we refer to as XJTLU 2.0. We strengthened the robustness of our literacy education and deployed the Industry and Enterprise Tailored Education Programme (XJTLU 2.1) to improve knowledge in relevant industry sectors. In addition, we established the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) (or XJTLU 2.2), where we carefully selected a series of disciplines that are expected to have a meaningful impact on human development, and launched various industry-focused academic programs through strong partnerships with reputable domestic and international companies within these sectors. By improving literacy skills and technical expertise, in particular sector knowledge for students, they were able to develop a very strong command of integration skills, creativity, a willingness to explore, and the ability to manage and maneuver the tools available to them.

To accelerate the implementation of XJTLU 3.0, we will establish XJTLU Syntegrative Colleges in line with China’s national strategies and market needs, as well as XJTLU Innovation and Education Colleges in different regions.

To support the effective running of XJTLU 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 models, on May 22nd, 2020, XJTLU launched the XJTLU Learning Mall, a support platform that draws on first-rate global educational resources and integrates online and offline operations, creating a multi-faceted learning environment that spans across regions, age groups, level of education, and interests.

The interaction between XJTLU educational exploration (including fundamental education, new vocational training, and impact of education) and the different models are illustrated in the diagram below:

Our efforts in exploring various educational models are guided by the University’s mission statement, vision and philosophies. The impact of such efforts will continue to grow as we progress through XJTLU model 1.0, 2.0 to 3.0.

We have drawn a full picture of XJTLU’s educational exploration efforts, which encompasses a full chain of educational reform and innovation in higher education, new professional education, secondary and elementary and kindergarten education. The mission, vision and education philosophy of XJTLU has always been at the core of our education exploration, including the XJTLU 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 education models, as well as our exploration in primary and new professional education. At the top of the star is the core mission of XJTLU –developing appropriate educational philosophies and optimal models of running an institution that meet the future demands of our society, with XJTLU 3.0 as an example, directing the path forward for educational reform in China and future development in the field of education globally, ultimately promoting the advancement of civilization.

We have also established the XJTLU Learning Mall to ensure the efficient running of our education system, especially to deal with the many challenges international education would face in a post-pandemic world. The Learning Mall provides world-class educational resources and supports the XJLTU education system with an ecosystem that promotes interest-driven lifelong learning and innovation by combining school education and industry experience and conducting online and on-site learning activities for all users, no matter their country, region, or age.

The circle in the blueprint represents XJTLU’s core business, and the dotted lines represent the impact we could have on social education.
