Research seminar: Being international in the newsgathering profession



Emma González will be speaking about her international career as a journalist and the challenges she has been facing in other parts of the world, but also in China. The talk will then focus on how to overcome these challenges and present her views on how the news media will be developing in the future. She will also give tips for students who are interested in a career in the news media and will make suggestions on how to start out on such a career path.

Emma González, MA

After graduating in journalism in Spain, and working in Rome, London and Geneva, Emma González moved to Beijing, where she now works as a business reporter for the leading English language newspaper in China.

Prior to this, she had worked at Argus Media in London, a news wire specialised in the coverage of commodity markets. In this position, she closely followed political and economic developments in China, Brazil and Mozambique. She has also worked for Marketscope Europe, the financial newswire of the ratings agency Standard & Poor’s, covering the Italian, Dutch and Belgian stock exchanges, writing short pieces and analytic commentaries. She has also worked as an intern for the United Nations in Geneva.

Emma is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in English and Italian. She is passionate about new media, blogging and long-form journalism.
