Speaker's bio

Alex joined the University of Liverpool’s Department of Geography and Planning in February 2016 as a Lecturer in Urban Planning. With research expertise in sub-national governance, particularly at the local scale, Alex's recent research interests have centred on the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ and the prospects for the cities in Northern England. Most recently, Alex's research has been awarded the 'Sam Aaronovitch Prize' from the journal Local Economy in recognition of the quality of his 2015 submission: Research Questions to Assess the Northern Powerhouse. Currently Alex is working to internationalise this research agenda, drawing in case studies from Europe and China as a means to sharpen UK domestic policy.
