Architecture beyond Architecture: Types of Relations between Forms and Politics
In what ways does micro and macro political practice get involved in and with material forms and spaces? This lecture – based on the speaker’s collection of essays of two decades – speculates on a new method with which a list of cases is identified. Adopting a ‘horizontal’ and concrete approach, forms, culture, aesthetics, state practice and geo-politics are viewed together in a new perspective.
Jianfei Zhu is Associate Professor at University of Melbourne, and Guest Professor at Southeast University of Nanjing since 2012. He is also a Guest Professor at CAA in Hangzhou in 2017-18. He has published widely in English on the topics of space, politics, design thinking, imperial Beijing and modern Chinese architecture.
