TEDxXJTLU Annual Conference 2019: RESHAPE



TEDxXJTLU was approved by the TED official headquarters on March 7, 2019, initiated by XJTLU museum staff, independent non-profit volunteer organization operated by teachers and students, a very energetic incubator for ideas, creativity and innovation. We commit to spreading good ideas and trying to put them into action, and let more creative ideas of XJTLUers heard by the world.

Qiuling Chao

Ph.D in Development and Educational Psychology, PhD, School of Public Policy and Management, Xi'an Jiaotong University, PhD supervisor, Secretary of the Party Committee of XJTLU, Vice-President of Student and Information transaction, XJTLU, with professional background of English, pedagogy, psychology and other disciplines, has been engaged in Higher Education Research for a long time, and has systematically and thoroughly studied the current situation and development of Higher Education.. She served as the deputy director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of Xi 'an Jiaotong University and the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute of the University of Liverpool.

Tairun Chen

Ph.D in theoretical physics, University of Cambridge, and lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, XJTLU. His research interests include general relativity and its substitution theory, dark energy, and numerical relativity. He was awarded a special project of theoretical physics by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He went from the best high school in Taiwan to the best university in Taiwan and became a winner of the presidential scholarship. He also went to the top university in the world. He had the perfect life of “other children” in the eyes of the public. He was known as "XJTLU Zhishu Jiang" by the students at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

Tao Xu

He is the founder of ‘Slowly Time’, a Suzhou independent bookstore, and the general manager of Cedong Culture Communication Co.,LTD. In 2012, he became one of the founders of ‘Slowly Time’ and has operated the bookstore with the “book oriented” belief since then. In his opinion, bookstore is the space full of thoughts. It does not concern with the size of the space, but the dedicated and deep emotion and “stubborn” believes. Nowadays, ‘Slowly Time’ has became a well-known bookshop with distinctive characters. Xu integrates culture, space, cultural and creative products and advertising together, constantly explores the integration of new forms of culture and advertising. He presents a unique kind of expression and established a distinctive label for cultural brand.

Yanghuan Bao

He is the master of genetics of Oregon State University and finished MBA of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. Currently, he is the investment partner of many funds and incubators such as Suzhou Mint Angel Fund and Blue Rainbow Incubator and participates in the operation of BGI Life and Health Entrepreneurship Acceleration Camp. He worked for four years as a researcher and laboratory director at The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in the United States. After returning to China, he engaged in bio-medical venture capital and participated in the investment, post-investment management, establishment and guidance for more than 20 bio-pharmaceutical companies. He was selected as the most active venture capitalist in China and has been the judge of national biomedical entrepreneurship competition for many times, for example, the final in biomedical industry of China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for three consecutive years.

Doppo Matsubara

He is a senior architect and the master of architecture, Kyoto university, Japan. He studied under the world famous architect Shin Takamatsu. Now he works in BES Creative Design Company as the executive manager and creative director. He is the chief designer of the art installation in front of Suzhou Silk Museum, Suzhou western eco-city and Dafeng Dutch flower sea. His design and renovation of the Hotel S Hotel in Roppongi, Tokyo, Japan won Japan Good Design Award in 2014. He is also a VJ (Visual Jockey), writer, magazine editor, and co-founder of the NPO, which promotes the traditional performing arts of "power". Its social project, IGO AMIGO, won the Press Club Award in 2007 which is given annually to Japan's most influential social events and aims to educate young people about IGO.

Zhihe Zhao

He is a senior student majoring in Computer Science and Technology at Xi 'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. He is going to study for a PhD in Electronics and Computer Science at Duke University. His research direction is AIoT (Artificial Intelligence Internet of Things) =AI (Artificial Intelligence) +IoT (Internet of Things). In his sophomore year, he applied for a gap year to establish a smart home company in partnership with XJTLU alumni and obtained millions of investment. After the first taste of business, he returned to the campus for further study with a new understanding of smart industry. During the university, he has published one SCI paper and two papers of top academic conferences. In April 2018, he presented his achievements at the IEEE Internet of Things conference held in Orlando, USA, and won the summer scientific research opportunity provided by the top professors in the Internet of Things field of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has also won many awards from national competitions such as national smart car race, maker race, hackathon race, etc. and participated in Nepal volunteer teaching in his spare time. In the application season of 2019, he got the full-funded doctoral offers from Duke University, Stony Brook University of New York, the University of Texas at Dallas and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Martijn ten Bhömer

He holds a PhD in Industrial Design from Eindhoven University of Technology and is dedicated to the research in design methods for the development and manufacturing of smart textiles and services. Dr. Martijn is currently a lecturer in the Department of Industrial Design, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, director of the Master of Industrial Design program, and director of the Digital Manufacturing Laboratory of Industrial Design. He has been engaged in research work in multinational companies such as Microsoft Research UK, Deutsche Telekom, OMsignal in Canada and Bambi Medical in the Netherlands, and has rich experience in the industry. His industrial design works have been exhibited in museums, professional exhibitions and academic conferences in many countries.

Yichi Liu

Hangzhou yungu school junior two students, 14 years old. She began to learn vocal music, dance and Zhe Jiang local opera -- Yue opera at the age of four. She learned from Huizhen Yu, a national first-class Yue opera actress. The classic Yue opera chorus "the back of the hand and the palm of the hand are all meat" was performed by her. In 2011, Yichi Liu became the youngest "Cultural volunteer of Zhe Jiang province". From the grassroots level to CCTV, she has hosted and participated in more than 60 cultural volunteer activities at all levels. She has acted as the performance guest of provincial activities in Zhe Jiang province for many times and won many awards in English recitation and speech contests at provincial, municipal and even national levels.
Performing Yue opera is not only for her enjoyment and happiness, but also for the inheritance and spread of traditional culture. She expects more children to love and enjoy Yue opera which belongs to the essence of traditional Chinese cultures and pass on the baton of the traditional culture together.
