Applied Mathematics Seminar Series: Liquid Crystal and Its Mathematical Analysis

  • Time: 11:20 -12:30
  • Date: July 12th, 2019, Friday
  • Venue: MB237
  • Speaker: Professor Jinhae Park, Chungnam National University, South Korea

Liquid crystal is a state of matter between isotropic fluid and crystalline solid. It has properties of both liquid and solid which make it difficult to study. In this talk, we introduce a brief introduction to Liquid Crystal. In particular, we discuss the Landau- de Gennes theory which has been widely used in both mathematics and physics communities. We also plan to present recent developments and some mathematical problems related to singularities and phase transitions.
