The nucleophilic addition of organometallic species to pyridine has long been known to generate metallo-dihydropyridines but these are frequently in-situ intermediates on the path to functionalized aromatic organic molecules. We have been interested in the stabilization of these kinetic intermediates for exploitation as surrogate metal hydrides, where the two components can be unleashed simultaneously to act as an enhanced-reactivity metal hydride in both synthesis and catalytic reactions.
