International relations is the interdisciplinary study of the interconnectedness of politics, economics and law in global affairs. Established in 2018, the Department of International Relations at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) examines interactions and relationships between nation states, international organisations, non-governmental organisations and multinational corporations within the international framework, with an emphasis placed on understanding and interpreting the changing position and role of China within this framework.

Our world-class faculty delivers research-led teaching on society, politics, economics, institutions, business and development issues in major regions of the world, including North and South America, East and Southeast Asia, Europe and Africa, and China's engagement with these regions.

The department also provides advice and assistance on local socio-economic interactions. The department currently offers a BA in International Relations which is open to both Chinese and international applicants, and it is planning to launch two new Masters programmes in 2021. The department also welcomes applications to its PhD programme.
