About LIFE

Evidence shows that people who develop holistically — emotionally, physically, ethically, artistically, and cognitively — perform better at work and lead happier lives with strong connections to others, including their friends and families.

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University’s Learning Institute for Future Excellence (LIFE) within the Academy of Future Education (AoFE) aims to support XJTLU students’ holistic development. While students’ academic departments provide them with the knowledge and skills needed for their adult lives and future careers, LIFE is committed to ensuring that XJTLU students develop into well-rounded human beings.

LIFE focuses on specific areas, including research-led learning, arts, ethics, global citizenship, and physical and socio-emotional development. In addition, LIFE actively promotes AI literacy.

The Department offers and develops activities and courses in these fields through designated coordinators who provide their expertise across the University. In this endeavour, LIFE coordinates closely with other entities within the University that support holistic development.

A second stream of activities is centred around syntegrative education (education linked with industry partners to establish a symbiotic ecosystem) and social innovation. The Department of LIFE supports XJTLU’s Education Model 3.0 by integrating education into the heart of society, connecting with industry, and using education to address the social challenges of our times with the purpose to support sustainable development. These challenges range from climate change prevention and mitigation, to obesity and gender equality.

In this context, we offer the Certificate in Industry and Enterprise-tailored Training and Education (IETE) and Inter-disciplinary Social Innovation Course (ISIC).
