Profile

Professor of China Studies. Research has concentrated on social change in Sichuan, Guizhou, Shanxi, Hainan, Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu, Gansu and Qinghai Provinces over five decades. Editor of the series on China in Transition for Routledge since 1995; and the series of Handbooks of Research on Contemporary China for Edward Elgar since 2012. Active in university management since 1983, having established a faculty, four research centres, and a department; and having been a university vice president for five years (University of Technology, Sydney). Previous member of the Australian Research Council, and the Australian Government’s Foreign Affairs Council. Service as a Quality Auditor for the European Association of Universities, the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, and both the Australian Universities Quality Agency and the Australian Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency. Currently, a member of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council's Humanities and Social Sciences Panel. Prof Goodman is also an emeritus professor at University of Technology, Sydney, and the University of Sydney; as well as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.
