ProfileDr. Juming Shen is a local resident of Suzhou. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Soochow University in 2007 and 2010 respectively. To further explore his interest in academic studies, he went to Australia with the fund from China Scholarship Council and he obtained his Ph.D in higher educational studies from Queensland University of Technology in 2013. He returned to his hometown immediately and started working at Soochow University as a senior lecturer in the School of Foreign Languages. In 2016, Dr. Shen joined the Language Centre of Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University where he taught modules on English for Academic Purposes and developed a new module of “Developing Students’ Intercultural Awareness and Skills”. In 2019, he joined Academy of Future Education as an Assistant Professor to lecture on the program of MA Global Education. From 2019 to 2021, he worked as Director of Learning and Teaching for the school for two years and then he was appointed as Head of Learning Institute for Future Excellence (LIFE), a department dedicated to develop students’ lifelong learning capacity as well as the overall learning practices in XJTLU.
Currently, Dr Shen’s research interest is focused on the how teaching and learning practices can be better managed in the contemporary era to facilitate college students’ development. This perspective involves much empirical analysis, ranging from educational policy to digital approaches to education, as well as reflection on educational philosophy informed by educational semiotics (edu-semiotics), an analytical framework gaining acknowledgement rapidly and widely in educational studies.
