Additional requirements

An internship (year-out) in architecture-related practice is recommended, but not required. This work experience should be evidenced in a signed and authorized document. A portfolio is required.

Undergraduate background

Bachelor Degree in finance, accounting, economics, management, marketing, science or engineering, preferable to have knowledge of Econometrics, Statistics, Operations Research, and programming (Python, Matlab, R, Stata).

Additional requirements

Prior knowledge of basic econometrics is welcome, although not required.

Normally a good first degree (UK 2.1 or international equivalent) in any discipline. Applicants must also submit:

  • A CV
  • A one-page (A4) personal statement. Please provide a personal statement highlighting the following areas:
    1. Indicate which pathway you are interested in studying; outline why you chose this pathway, and highlight how your background and experience make you an ideal candidate.
    2. Indicate which track (Entrepreneur or Intrapreneur) you wish to follow. If you wish to follow the entrepreneur track, outline your potential business idea and how you think the degree programme will benefit you. If you wish to follow the intrapreneur track, please explain how you will benefit from the degree programme within a company

Students who did not study a business or numeracy degree as their first degree may be asked to undertake a short numeracy-based pre-sessional programme.

Undergraduate background

Bachelor Degree (UK2:1 or equivalent) in a related subject (such as digital media technology, electrical engineering, computer science and technology, mechatronics and robotic systems) from an accepted University or other Institute of Higher Education. Alternative qualifications and all non-UK qualifications which are equivalent to a UK science- or engineering-based honours degree may also be considered. In some cases, a good UK 2.2 honours degree may be considered if strong performance in relevant subjects is demonstrated or the applicant has relevant industrial experience.

It is essential, to have passed at least four ICAEW Certificate Level (CFAB) papers on entry. Equivalent degrees or papers are also acceptable if qualified as Credit for Prior Learning by ICAEW or ACCA. Students who have not completed CFAB will need to do so prior to seeking full membership of the ICAEW Applicants who do not have an equivalent UK degree in Accounting will also be considered if they have completed the six ICAEW Certificate Level (CFAB) papers or equivalent. Applicants with a professional background rather than a degree need to demonstrate relevant training record and working experience in an accounting and finance environment. Such applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and are subject to approval by XJTLU Academic Affairs.

An English version portfolio is required, which should have an introductory table of content in which all projects are listed, with their title, their date, the context in which they were developed and the specific contribution of the candidate to the project. The portfolio should be saved in a PDF(max 10MB).

Minimum entry requirement

The minimum entry requirements for all masters programmes:

China

  • Top 100 of 2023 Shanghai Ranking or World-class universities or First-class disciplines (MoE, People’s Republic of China): 75 per cent or above (Weighted Average Mark)
  • Other universities: 80 – 85 per cent or above (Weighted Average Mark), depending on your undergraduate institution

UK:

  • UK upper second class honours (2:1) or equivalent

North America:

  • 3.0 Cumulative GPA (out of 4) or

English language requirement

If English is not your native language or if you have not studied English at a degree level, you will need to provide evidence of your level of English proficiency.

You should normally possess an appropriate onsite IELTS (Academic), TOEFL iBT, PTE (Academic) or equivalent score (Tests completed no earlier than 1 January 2022) as listed on each programme page.

English Language exemption requirements

You will qualify for an exemption from the English language requirement if one of the following applies to you:

  • You are a national of a majority English-speaking country:

Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, USA, UK

  • You have fully completed/are completing a degree in a majority English-speaking country (Chinese joint venture programmes are not included). Your degree shall be conferred no earlier than 1 January 2022
  • You have fully completed/are completing a degree which has been taught and assessed in English (Chinese joint venture programmes are not included), and your degree shall be conferred no earlier than 1 January 2022 with an English proficiency letter issued by the institution. The English proficiency letter should:

be typed and printed on institutional letterhead

bear the seal/signature of the issuing authority

indicate your degree has been taught and assessed entirely in English

  • You have completed/are completing a degree from one of the universities listed below. Your degree shall be conferred no earlier than 1 January 2022:

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, University of Nottingham Ningbo China, New York University Shanghai, Wenzhou-Kean University, Duke Kunshan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Beijing Normal University-HongKong Baptist University United International College (aka UIC), Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University

Note: If you qualify for an English Language exemption and provide a valid IELTS/TOEFL iBT/PTE score when you submit application, we will access IELTS/TOEFL iBT/PTE score as evidence of your level of English proficiency.

Pre-sessional English (PSE) Course

If you miss the English language requirements by 0.5 of an overall IELTS band but meet the language requirements for the Pre-sessional English (PSE) Course(including minimum component scores or equivalents), you may be accepted onto the PSE course subject to Programme Director’s approval. Upon successful completion of the PSE course, you will be able to change your XJTLU Master’s offer letter to ‘Unconditional’ for the English level.

Password English Language Test

If you are a conditional offer holder, you can also send an email to pgadmissions@xjtlu.edu.cn to apply to take the onsite Password English language test provided by XJTLU instead of an IELTS/TOEFL or its equivalent.

Please note that the Password Test is only available to students who have been issued a conditional offer to study at XJTLU. In principle, the University provides one Password Test opportunity for each conditional offer holder.

Password English test fee: 500 RMB/per test/per person

The test fee payment manual will be included in the formal Password test notification.

The following tentative dates are available for the Password English test if you receive a conditional offer:

May: Tuesday 14, Thursday 16, Tuesday 21, Thursday 23

Note: Please note that you will not be allowed to change your booked test slot once confirmed. If there is a very small number of applicants for your booked test slot, the slot may be cancelled and we will offer the next available slot to you. The test slots are limited, we will receive bookings on a first-come, first-served basis.
