Eligibility for those of Chinese heritage to international student status:

No matter where you hold citizenship or where you were born, it is the responsibility of every international applicant to XJTLU to ensure that they meet the criteria under the 4-4-2 policy* to apply as an international student. If you have Chinese heritage, please provide us with evidence that you have had your current passport or nationality for at least four years. Send us evidence that you have lived at least two of the past four years outside of China (China includes the Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan regions). If this applies to you, please send us two documents showing, respectively, that you have cancelled your previous Chinese citizenship and cancelled your previous Hukou. XJTLU will use these documents to help us confirm your nationality status and we must reject students who do not provide them. If information is withheld at the admissions stage regarding previous Chinese nationality or Hukou, students potentially face being ineligible for their degree even after study has started.

Please note that even if you were born outside of China or have otherwise gained foreign citizenship (for example, through immigration), China may still consider you a Chinese citizen based on your birthplace, the citizenship of your parents at the time of your birth and/or whether you hold any documents or status (for example, a Hukou or Chinese travel document) that would confer Chinese citizenship status upon you. Confirming that you are not a Chinese citizen is your responsibility. XJTLU can provide advice on this matter, but takes no legal responsibility for any advice it might give.
