Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is an international joint-venture university founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the UK. As a Sino-foreign cooperative university, it captures the essence of both parent universities and is the largest of its kind approved by China’s Ministry of Education.

Education Quality and International Accreditation
The quality of XJTLU’s programmes is ensured through a rigorous quality assurance system established in line with the requirements of the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency. The University continues to build a high-calibre academic team and recruit renowned scholars from around the world. As of September 2025, XJTLU had approximately 1,800 teaching and research staff, providing strong support for the quality of its education.
XJTLU offers programmes of study at undergraduate, master’s and PhD level, as well as a growing list of of executive and professional development opportunities, and short and summer courses. Upon graduation, undergraduate students will earn two degrees – an XJTLU degree recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education and a globally respected University of Liverpool degree. Postgraduate students will receive a degree from the University of Liverpool, which is recognised by China’s Ministry of Education.
Since the University was established, numerous programmes in the School of Science, School of Mathematics and Physics, Design School, International Business School Suzhou, School of Advanced Technology, and more, have been accredited by authoritative international organisations. International Business School Suzhou is one of the few business schools in the world to hold the prestigious Triple Crown accreditation from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. In addition, the University has entered the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Top 1% in the fields of engineering, computer science, social sciences (general), environment/ecology, economics/business, chemistry, and materials science.

City and University
We have been part of eastern China’s development into one of the world’s economic powerhouses. Our strategic locations in the Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District (SEID) of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) means we have unrivalled business connections and opportunities for industry collaboration.
XJTLU’s orientation towards applied research enhances SIP’s infrastructure and reputation. XJTLU attracts additional research talent to the city and contributes to its global research reputation. Together, we are also developing new approaches to innovation, technology, knowledge transfer, and commercial enterprise through research innovation resources and platforms.
Likewise, XJTLU’s Taicang base, which opened in September 2022, affords the University another location among growing enterprises. The highly developed city enjoys close industrial ties to nearby Shanghai. Two types of industry in Taicang – high-end equipment and advanced materials – have achieved a minimum annual industrial output exceeding 100 billion RMB. The local government encourages development of emerging industries and is placing special attention on the aviation and biomedicine industries. Major international corporations with operations in the city include ExxonMobil, Bosch and P&G. More than 500 German companies are located in Taicang.
