Scholarships

We offer a range of attractive scholarships to exceptionally qualified applicants who wish to start at XJTLU in 2020.

Study with us

Scholarships available range from 10 to 50 percent of tuition for each award, depending upon the specific scholarship programme.

Available scholarships and eligibility are outlined below. Both international and Chinese students are eligible unless otherwise noted. Successful applicants can be awarded only one scholarship per year, scholarships may not be combined.

The XJTLU scholarship committee meets to consider scholarship awards to students who have already received an offer of admission approximately five times per year from mid-November to mid-June. You are encouraged to apply early for admission to XJTLU programmes to ensure availability of scholarship opportunities.


Undergraduate

1) Jiangsu Province Jasmine Scholarship

Application deadline: 30 May 2019

The Jasmine Jiangsu Government Scholarship, set by the Jiangsu provincial government, supports academically excellent international students who would like to undertake full-time study at universities and colleges in the province. These scholarships are open to all international students who wish to study undergraduate programmes at XJTLU. To be eligible you must apply for your desired programme at XJTLU as well as apply for the scholarship through the Study in Jiangsu website by 30 May 2019.

Scholarship

The total amount of the scholarship for each awardee is 30,000RMB. As it is directly reduced from the tuition fees for the Academic Year 2019-20, awardees of this scholarship only have to pay partial tuition fees when they enrol at the University.

Eligibility

  • Applicants for undergraduate programmes must have a senior high school diploma with a good academic performance and be under the age of 30
  • Must have a good academic record
  • Applicants cannot be recipients of other scholarships offered by the Chinese government, local governments or other XJTLU scholarships.

2) Entry Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Applicants

We offer an entry scholarship of up to RMB 44,000 (or up to 50 percent of the tuition fee) per year for international and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan undergraduate students, based on academic excellence. Your indication of interest during the online programme application process and filling in the ‘XJTLU Entry Scholarship’ section are required to be considered for this scholarship. Entry scholarships are renewable annually subject to continued strong academic performance. The panel that makes decisions on entry scholarship awards meets at various times throughout the year and you are encouraged to apply early for admission to XJTLU undergraduate programmes to ensure availability of scholarship opportunities. Deadlines throughout the year are:

  • First round: 30 November 2019
  • Second round: 29 February 2020
  • Third round: 15 April 2020
  • Fourth round: 15 May 2020
  • Fifth round: 15 June 2020

Please note the final application deadline is 15 June 2020.

3) Scholarship for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan

The Chinese Ministry of Education and the Jiangsu provincial government offer additional scholarships exclusively for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. This support is also based upon academic merit.

4) Higher Education Town Scholarship

Suzhou Higher Education Town where XJTLU is located offers generous academic merit scholarships to international undergraduate students studying degree programmes and short courses. Please indicate your interest in being considered during the programme application process.

5) The University of Liverpool 2+2 discount

Continuing XJTLU students who choose the 2+2 study route and transfer to The University of Liverpool for Years Three and Four will be offered a discount of 10 percent off the tuition fees of the University of Liverpool.

6) Progression Scholarship

Progression scholarships are awarded based upon a student’s average marks in the previous academic session. The award for first class marks is currently RMB 10,000; the award for second class marks is RMB 5,000. Nominations are considered automatically, there is no need for students to apply.

7) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships

XJTLU students may apply to conduct a funded summer research project with expert research staff supervision. These prestigious fellowships are highly sought after as an excellent learning experience and resume builder for graduate programmes and employment. 8) Study Dushu Lake Ambassador Scheme

Up to 25 percent reduction of annual tuition fee and work placement may be available for all continuing students.


Masters

1) Alumni discount

If you are a graduate of XJTLU, the University of Liverpool or Xi’an Jiaotong University, you will automatically receive a discount of 20 percent off masters tuition fees.

2) Jiangsu Province Jasmine Scholarship

  • Applicants for the masters degree programmes must have a undergraduate degree and be under the age of 35
  • Must have a good academic record
  • Applicants cannot be recipients of other scholarships offered by the Chinese government, local governments or other XJTLU scholarships.

3) Masters Entry Scholarship

Deadline: 30 June 2019

We offer a generous entry scholarship of up to 50 percent of the total programme tuition fee for all full-time masters programmes based on academic merit. Your indication of interest during the online programme application process and a scholarship application letter are required to be considered for an XJTLU masters scholarship. Scholarships are available for full-time study only, and there are currently no scholarships available for part-time programmes. You are encouraged to apply early for admission to XJTLU master’s programmes to ensure availability of scholarship opportunities.

The meeting schedule for masters entry scholarship panel is:

  • First round - Early January 2019
  • Second round - Mid March 2019
  • Third round - Mid May 2019
  • Fourth round - Early July 2019

4) Higher Education Town Scholarship

Suzhou Higher Education Town where XJTLU is located offers generous academic merit scholarships to international postgraduate students studying degree programmes.

5) XJTLU Masters ‘friendship’ scholarships for students from Russia, Thailand and Indonesia

Deadline: 30 June 2019

The XJTLU masters ‘friendship’ scholarships are offered to students from Russia, Thailand and Indonesia in recognition of the contribution students from these countries make to the international environment of XJTLU’s campus.

Scholarships

Scholarships will be awarded to up to five students from each country (up to 12 students in total) to the value of 30 percent of the total programme tuition fee

Eligibility

Applicants must be residents from Russia, Thailand or Indonesia and meet the minimum entry requirements.

Process

Applications from students from Russia, Thailand and Indonesia who have applied for the scholarship will be reviewed by the XJTLU Masters Scholarship Panel regularly. Please indicate your interest in the programme application process and submit a scholarship application letter online. Successful candidates will be notified and receive 30 percent off their total tuition fee.

6) Talent Selection Programme

Deadline: 30 June 2019 (Early application is recommended)

XJTLU has scholarships from the Jiangsu Government Talent Selection Programme for students studying the Masters in Sustainable Construction.

The scholarship includes a full tuition fee waiver, free accommodation, additional free Chinese language classes and a modest living allowance to cover daily expenses.

Eligibility

  • Only available for applicants to the full-time MSc programme
  • Be a non-Chinese national
  • Meet all the admission criteria for the programme
  • Be under 30 years of age at start of the programme (September 2019)
  • Live outside China at the time of application (or be an international student at a university in Jiangsu Province)

Process


PhD

XJTLU offers a range of scholarships to highly motivated and qualified candidates to pursue research leading to a PhD degree. Successful applicants may receive financial support including:

  • A tuition fee scholarship for up to three years
  • A monthly stipend for up to three years

Students who are awarded an XJTLU PhD scholarship are normally required to undertake a Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant (300–500 hours in one academic year) role during the scholarship funded period, which is an excellent opportunity to develop academic and research skills.

There are generally two channels for you to receive a PhD scholarship:

  • Apply for a scholarship for an existing funded PhD project
  • Bring your own research project and apply for a scholarship, if your research area falls into one of the three following categories: Business, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Design.

1) Apply for a scholarship for an existing funded PhD project

You can apply for an existing PhD project which has received funds from the University or external funding bodies. These projects have an established research topic and a formed supervisory team. You can check the individual PhD programme for information about specific projects available or contact potential supervisors to discuss funding opportunities.

There is no specific application deadline for each project, which will open until the position is filled. The start date of a PhD programme is normally the first day of March, June, September, or December. The application procedure can be found here.

2) Scholarships available in Business, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Design clusters.

Additional scholarships are available to candidates who wish to pursue research degree in the following areas:

There will be two application rounds for each academic year:

First round– applications submitted by 17:00 CST(UTC+8), 15 October will be reviewed in the first round and the successful scholarship recipients will be announced in December.

Second round– applications submitted by 17:00 CST(UTC+8), 15 April will be reviewed in the second round and the successful scholarship recipients will be announced in June.

Interested applicants are advised to email to doctoralstudies@xjtlu.edu.cn with the word “DESIGN” or “IBSS” or “HSS” in the subject line to indicate your interested research area, together with the following documents:

  • CV
  • Two reference letters with company/university letterhead
  • Personal statement outlining your interest in the position
  • Proof of English language proficiency (an IELTS score of 6.5 or above; for HSS applicants, IELTS score of 7 or above)
  • Verified school transcripts in both Chinese and English (for international students, only the English version is required)
  • Verified certificates of education qualifications in both Chinese and English (for international students, only the English version is required)
  • A fully referenced Research Proposal in English (1,000-3,500 words), including a research proposal title and a description of the research project, see template
  • PDF copy of Masters degree dissertation (or an equivalent writing sample) and examiners reports.
