Diploma in China Studies
The Diploma in China Studies is designed to provide insights into China’s society, economy, politics, and the rich historical and cultural traditions that shape them. Thanks to the wide range of available modules, students can tailor the focus and content of their studies. The programme’s flexibility allows students to maximise the intellectual and professional benefits, providing specialist knowledge applicable to various academic and professional contexts.

Structure
To complete the programme, students can choose from Stage 2, 3, or 4 modules offered by the Department of China Studies XJTLU. Stage 5 modules can be taken with the Programme Director’s approval. Students may choose a UG module outside China Studies, either in semester 1 or 2. They can choose ESS modules or other UG modules, provided they can demonstrate equivalent prerequisites and obtain the module leader’s approval. Students are strongly encouraged to take 5 credits of Chinese language in semesters 1 and 2.

I studied at XJTLU in Suzhou, China, as part of the China Studies department. I was drawn to the University due to the unique Diploma in China Studies programme, which integrates Chinese language, culture, and history. Studying these subjects while living in China provided an immersive experience that significantly developed my cultural understanding, confidence, and ability to adapt in an international environment. The teaching staff were exceptionally supportive, always willing to provide additional guidance and explore topics in greater depth. This experience strengthened my global perspective and prepared me for future international opportunities.

About Suzhou
Established in 514 BCE, Suzhou, the historic heartland of the Lower Yangtze Delta, also known as the ‘Venice of the East,’, is famous for its gardens, canal system, silk industry, and bridges.
