Early bird discount
All international and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students who submit an online application and accept their conditional or unconditional offer by 1 June 2020 will automatically qualify for a RMB 8,000 early bird discount.
Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students who apply to XJTLU with Joint Entrance Examination through the governmental online application system (The Education Examination Authority of Guangdong Province) will automatically qualify for a RMB 8,000 early bird discount.
1) Entry Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Applicants
We offer an entry scholarship of up to RMB 44,000 (or up to 50 percent of the tuition fee) per year for international and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan undergraduate students, based on academic excellence. Your indication of interest during the online programme application process and filling in the ‘XJTLU Entry Scholarship’ section are required to be considered for this scholarship. Entry scholarships are renewable annually subject to continued strong academic performance. The panel that makes decisions on entry scholarship awards meets at various times throughout the year and you are encouraged to apply early for admission to XJTLU undergraduate programmes to ensure availability of scholarship opportunities. Deadlines throughout the year are:
- First round: 30 November 2019
- Second round: 29 February 2020
- Third round: 15 April 2020
- Fourth round: 15 May 2020
- Fifth round: 15 June 2020
- Sixth round: 15 July 2020

2) Scholarship for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan
The Chinese Ministry of Education and the Jiangsu provincial government offer additional scholarships exclusively for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. This support is also based upon academic merit.
3) The University of Liverpool 2+2 discount
Continuing XJTLU students who choose the 2+2 study route and transfer to The University of Liverpool for Years Three and Four will be offered a discount of 10 percent off the tuition fees of the University of Liverpool.
4) Progression Scholarship
Progression scholarships are awarded based upon a student’s average marks in the previous academic session. The award for first class marks is currently RMB 10,000; the award for second class marks is RMB 5,000. Nominations are considered automatically, there is no need for students to apply.
7) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships
XJTLU students may apply to conduct a funded summer research project with expert research staff supervision. These prestigious fellowships are highly sought after as an excellent learning experience and resume builder for graduate programmes and employment. 8) Study Dushu Lake Ambassador Scheme
Up to 25 percent reduction of annual tuition fee and work placement may be available for all continuing students.
Tuition fees at masters level vary depending on the programme being studied. Please find individual programme below for specific details.
If you are a graduate of XJTLU, the University of Liverpool or Xi’an Jiaotong University, you will automatically receive a discount of 20 percent of the tuition fee.
Masters students have the option to pay tuition fees in instalments each semester. You can also choose to pay the fees upfront at the time of registration, in this case a discount of five percent of the total fees will be offered.
You will be asked to indicate how you would like to pay the fees when you confirm your acceptance of the unconditional offer.

2) Masters Entry Scholarship

We offer a generous entry scholarship of up to 50 percent of the total programme tuition fee for all full-time masters programmes based on academic merit. Your indication of interest during the online programme application process and a scholarship application letter are required to be considered for an XJTLU masters scholarship. Scholarships are available for full-time study only, and there are currently no scholarships available for part-time programmes. You are encouraged to apply early for admission to XJTLU master’s programmes to ensure availability of scholarship opportunities.

3) XJTLU Masters ‘friendship’ scholarships for students from Russia, Thailand and Indonesia
Deadline: 15 June 2020
The XJTLU masters ‘friendship’ scholarships are offered to students from Russia, Thailand and Indonesia in recognition of the contribution students from these countries make to the international environment of XJTLU’s campus.
Scholarships will be awarded to up to five students from each country (up to 12 students in total) to the value of 30 percent of the total programme tuition fee
Applicants must be residents from Russia, Thailand or Indonesia and meet the minimum entry requirements.
Applications from students from Russia, Thailand and Indonesia who have applied for the scholarship will be reviewed by the XJTLU Masters Scholarship Panel regularly. Please indicate your interest in the programme application process and submit a scholarship application letter online. Successful candidates will be notified and receive 30 percent off their total tuition fee.
4) Government Talent Selection Programme for students studying the Masters in Sustainable Construction
Deadline: 30 June 2020
The aim of this scholarship is to create the next generation of civil engineering professionals to support infrastructural development, especially through the Belt and Road Initiative.
This government scholarship will waive the full tuition fee and provide a basic living allowance to support students during the 18 month programme, including free Chinese language classes.
- Only available for applicants to the full-time MSc programme
- Be a non-Chinese national
- Meet all the admission criteria for the programme
- Be under 30 years of age at start of the programme (September 2020)
- Live outside China at the time of application (or be an international student at a university in Jiangsu Province)
Apply for the programme at XJTLU and submit all required admissions documents
Currently the tuition fee payable by full-time students on postgraduate research programmes is RMB 80,000 per year. It normally takes two to four years to complete a full-time PhD programme.
For part-time students, tuition fee payable is RMB 60,000 per year. Part-time PhD study is typically completed in four to six years.
Fees are waived for students who are awarded an XJTLU PhD scholarship.
XJTLU offers a range of scholarships to highly motivated and qualified candidates to pursue research leading to a PhD degree. Successful applicants may receive financial support including:
- A tuition fee scholarship for up to three years
- A monthly stipend for up to three years
Students who are awarded an XJTLU PhD scholarship are normally required to undertake a Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant (300–500 hours in one academic year) role during the scholarship funded period, which is an excellent opportunity to develop academic and research skills.
There are generally two channels for you to receive a PhD scholarship:
- Apply for a scholarship for an existing funded PhD project
- Bring your own research project and apply for a scholarship, if your research area falls into one of the three following categories: Business, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Design.
1) Apply for a scholarship for an existing funded PhD project
You can apply for an existing PhD project which has received funds from the University or external funding bodies. These projects have an established research topic and a formed supervisory team. You can check the individual PhD programme for information about specific projects available or contact potential supervisors to discuss funding opportunities.
There is no specific application deadline for each project, which will open until the position is filled. The start date of a PhD programme is normally the first day of March, June, September, or December. The application procedure can be found here.
