Information on Arrival, Accommodation & Visa

Visa Free or Tourism Visa (L) Travel for Summer Camps

To attend your Summer Camp, the Chinese authorities want you to travel Visa Free, if this is available. If you cannot do this, then you must get a Tourism Visa (L).

There are currently numerous countries* that allow you to travel to the Chinese mainland for up to 30 days without needing a visa. Check the website of your local Chinese Embassy or Consulate, or contact them directly, to see whether you can come for your Summer Camp without a visa. If you can, be sure to buy flights that keep you within the allowed (30-day) limit.

If you need a visa, then you must apply for a Tourism Visa (L). To apply for this, tell the Visa Officer and / or put on your application form these exact words for your Summer Camp.

I am going to XJTLU to attend:

  • “Summer Camp: Chinese Language and Cultural Events”
  • “Summer Camp: Doing Business in a Changing China”
  • “Summer Camp: Immersive Techopreneurship”

If you use different words, such as “Course”, “School”, or “Programme”, your Tourism Visa (L) application could be rejected, and this could stop you from being able to come on your Summer Camp.

If the Visa Officer is unsure whether you only require a Tourism Visa (L), please refer them to this official website: https://www.studyinchina.edu.cn/visaAssistant/visaInformation

[If you are coming for the Summer Undergraduate Research Fund Projects (SURF), please directly email jianping.ge@xjtlu.edu.cn for visa advice.]

Arrival Planning

Airport Pick Up

XJTLU Global will send staff and student volunteers to meet you at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on a set number of days. They will meet you and offer FREE transport directly to your accommodation in SIP or Taicang.

As the last bus usually leaves Pudong at 5pm, this service is only available to you if your flight lands before 4pm. If it arrives later than this, or on another date, please make your own arrangements for travelling to your accommodation or stay in one of the airport hotels and take the coach the next morning.
