ProfileDr Zhen Troy Chen is Lecturer in Communication Studies. He obtained his PhD at the AHRC Centre for Digital Copyright at Nottingham University, where he also serves as Research Fellow for the Institute of Asia and Pacific Studies (IAPS) and Institute for Creative and Digital Cultures. His doctoral research was fully funded by Nottingham’s China and UK Campuses, AHRC and the Newton Fund.
Before joining XJTLU, he worked for City University of Hong Kong as a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Chinese and Comparative Law. His primary research interests are in cultural and creative industries, cultural and media policy (copyright, privacy and competition law), new (social) media, journalism and public relations. He presented his research and gave talks at international conferences in South Korea, the UK, Australia and China. His research papers appeared in prestigious journals, such as Journal of Consumer Culture and Ethics and Information Technology. He also contributed his book chapters published by Bloomsbury Academic and Cambridge Scholars.
Apart from research, he is an award-winning communications and marketing professional in international higher education. He has numerous articles, reports and footage featured in mainstream legacy media outlets and digital leaders such as, CCTV, CETV, Xinhua News, People's Daily (online), The Paper, Sina Sports, and Qianjiang Evening. He has extensive working experience in the media, consultancy, IT and the Finance industry where his industry-focused research gets nurtured and developed.
