Christian Nolf

Profile

Dr. Christian Nolf is Associate Professor in the Department of Urban Planning and Design at Xi'An Jiaotong Liverpool University (XJTLU), where he co-founded and directs the MSc of Urban Design and the interdisciplinary research platform ’Jiangnan Lab’.
Living and working in Suzhou since 2014, he has been awarded as PI or co- PI more than 450,000 RMB external grants from the NSFC, the Jiangsu Province and Suzhou’s Soft Science program for his research-through-design on water urbanism and urban regeneration in the Yangtze River Delta region. His work has been awarded with national prizes and published in international peer-reviewed journals such as Water Science & Technology, the Journal of Landscape Architecture, or the International Journal of Heritage Studies.
He holds two Master’s degrees in Architecture (UC Louvain, BE) and in Urbanism and Strategic Planning (KU Leuven, BE) and a Ph.D. in Urbanism (KU Leuven & U Hasselt, BE). Next to XJTLU, he has been a visiting professor at Zhejiang University (2018-ongoing), a lecturer in Architecture at Antwerp University (B) (2013-14), and a teaching assistant in the European Master of Urbanism (KU Leuven, IUAVenezia, TUDelft, UPC Barcelona) (2010-14).
