XJTLU and Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (PUSPS) in Athens, Greece, are building on their partnership with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June 2024, paving the way for enhanced student and staff exchanges and collaborative research initiatives.

From August 1st to 11th, Dr Francesco Macheda, Programme Director of the Master’s programme in International Business and Global Affairs at HSS, visited PUSPS to further discussions on implementing the cooperation agreement established by the MoU. During the visit, both universities explored opportunities to align undergraduate and postgraduate modules and discussed potential research collaborations focused on social and economic development. Key areas of interest include the impact of public policies on science, technology, healthcare, the environment, and social growth.

On August 8th, a pivotal meeting was held, attended by representatives from both institutions. XJTLU was represented by Dr Francesco Macheda, Dr Alessandra Cappelletti, Head of the Department of International Studies, Dr Lina Gong, Programme Director of the BA programme in International Relations, and Kewei Zhang, Study Abroad Officer at the X-Global Department. PUSPS was represented by Professor Stavros Mavroudeas and Professor Christos Papatheo, Vice Rector of PUSPS.

The meeting confirmed the schedule for signing the formal cooperation agreement in the fall of 2024. Both parties also agreed to hold two seminars—one at HSS, XJTLU in Suzhou and another at PUSPS in Athens—to further promote student and staff exchanges between the universities.

During his visit, Dr Francesco Macheda also presented his latest research on the role of state-owned economies in fostering high-quality economic development in China at the international conference organized by the World Association for Political Economy. The conference, titled “Political Economy vs. Economics in a Turbulent Multipolar World,” was held at Panteion University from August 2nd to 4th.

Panteion University, established in 1927, is the oldest university of social and political sciences in Greece and is well-recognized as a leading teaching and research institution in Europe.
