The 2024 MSc Cultural and Creative Industries Winter Exhibition organized by the Academy of Film and Creative Technology at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University was successfully held in the AS building on 2-4 December 2024. With the theme of “Multi+”, this exhibition is supervised by the teacher and led by the student curatorial team of the MSc Cultural and Creative Industries programme, presenting the exploration and learning achievements of the master's degree students in the field of culture and creativity.
The main focus of the exhibition aimed to showcase the excellent creative coursework by the class of 2024, including FTA421 (Introduction to Cultural and Creative Industries), FTA422 (Cultural and Media Policy), FTA425 (Research Methods for Cultural and Creative Industries), and FTA427 (Visual Cultures). In addition, some of the excellent coursework from the class of 2023 was also selected to participate in this exhibition. This exhibition is not only a feast of academic and artistic convergence but also an original practice and exploration of creative cultural reproduction.
The award ceremony of the 2024 MSc Cultural and Creative Industries Winter Exhibition was successfully held at 7:00 pm on 3 December in the AS Building. The award ceremony attracted nearly 100 students and teachers from various Schools and departments of XJTLU, among which Professor Qian Liu, Dean of the Academy of Film and Creative Technology, was invited as the opening speech guest. Dr Takao Terui, Dr Yiming Chen, and Dr Yiqing Yang, the module leaders related to the Cultural and Creative Industries programme, were invited as the guests of the award presenter to attend the ceremony.
After the youthful opening dance, Professor Qian Liu delivered a speech for this event. He mentioned that this exhibition is both an art exhibition and an exhibition of students' achievements. Students had a deeper understanding and exploration of how to make the leap from study to research. The students' works fully demonstrated their diversified talents and industry perspectives.
After a song performance from the students, Dr Takao Terui, the module leader of FTA 422 (Cultural and Media Policy), introduced the module's main content and innovative development, exploring in-depth the development of the module from domestic to international policies.
Then Dr Yiming Chen, the module leader of FTA425 (Research Methods for Cultural and Creative Industries), introduced the basic content of the research methods module and the form of fieldwork, helping students to build up their learning ideas and exploring directions in the form of teaching them the methods of learning. At the same time, he highly appreciated the beautiful works and detailed observation of the students.
Finally, Dr Yiqing Yang, the module leader of the FTA427 (Visual Cultures), introduced the content of the module and the connection with reality. Through the visuals, their works presented us with the social phenomenon in video and drew deep thoughts. Then, she introduced the advantages and creativity of the module's work and expressed the expectations for the student's future.
In addition, Dr Takao Terui, Dr Yiming Chen and Dr Yiqing Yang presented awards to the students who received the Excellent Creative Coursework Awards after their speeches.
The overall atmosphere of the awards ceremony was enthusiastic and warm. The elaborately designed songs and dances, delicious tea breaks, and a surprise after-party climaxed the awards ceremony. Students and teachers spent an unforgettable and wonderful evening together.
Through this exhibition, the audience can appreciate the student works' full creativity and talent and understand the development status and future trends of cultural and creative industries. At the same time, it also provides a platform for students to show themselves, communicate and learn, and promotes the exchange and cooperation of cultural and creative industries. In the future, students in cultural and creative industries will continue to give full play to their talents and creativity and contribute more to developing cultural and creative industries.
