The Department of Foundational Mathematics at XJTLU's School of Mathematics and Physics is excited to welcome new staff member Dr Jiaye Xu.

Career
Jiaye Xu is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Foundational Mathematics at XJTLU. Dr. Xu received her Ph.D. in Statistics and Applied Probability in 2021 from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she worked under the guidance of Professor Wendy Meiring. Before joining XJTLU, Dr. Xu was an Assistant Professor in the School of Economics at Nankai University.
Module
Dr. Xu is teaching MTH019 Calculus for Business this semester and will be teaching MTH004 Multivariable Calculus for Business and Arts in Semester 2.
Dr. Xu is dedicated to improving student understanding and performance. During her lecture, she makes every effort to enhance student engagement and participation through the use of problem-based learning and scaffolded instructions. Additionally, she incorporates computing tools, such as programming language, and AI-assisted tools to illustrate calculus theorems with applications.
Research interests
As a statistician, Dr. Xu focuses her research on state space models and Bayesian analysis. From a broader applications perspective, Dr. Xu conducts research in forensic statistics. This field involves the quantitative evaluation of forensic evidence, probabilistic reasoning, and decision-making assistance.
