Inaugural Celebration - School of Science PG Symposium

On March 5, 2025, the School of Science at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University successfully hosted its inaugural Postgraduate Research Symposium at the IA Building, South Campus. The event featured both engrossing research oral presentations and a high-quality poster exhibition. In total, 24 students delivered impressive oral presentations and 84 students presented posters with the aim to share their unique research directions and innovative findings.

During the event, School of Science faculty members evaluated all presentations and posters based on the research projects and results. There were 15 outstanding students selected to receive awards and the award ceremony was led by Professor Adam Cross, Associate Vice President for Education, XJTLU, Professor John Moraros, Dean of the School of Science and Professor Li Yang, Associate Dean for Research and Impact who collectively honored the exceptional research achievements of the winning students.

Exhibition Highlights

Students presented their in-depth research findings and scientific insights, covering cutting-edge topics across multiple science disciplines.

These included topics such as the application of data science in predicting environmental changes, innovative uses of nanotechnology in medicine—particularly for improving drug delivery and treatment efficiency—the potential of gene-editing technology in agriculture, and strategies for addressing climate change challenges. These outstanding presentations demonstrated the students’ expertise in their respective fields and also reflected their enthusiasm for contributing to future scientific innovations.

Reflecting on the event, Professor John Moraros remarked, “This remarkable event offers an excellent platform for showcasing our our School of Science students research accomplishments and also fosters their interdisciplinary communication skills. Through such opportunities, our students can exchange ideas, expand their horizons, and deepen their passion for research. We are committed to preparing the next generation of highly innovative and productive scientists to help tackle some of the largest challenges facing our world today.”

The symposium successfully showcased the growing and excellent research outcomes of the School of Science’s postgraduate students under the caring mentorship of their primary faculty supervisors and provided a valuable platform for interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and collaborations. Through this event, students were able to learn from each other, share best practices, and jointly contribute to advancing scientific research and development at XJTLU.
