On March 26, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences successfully hosted a Career Talk on Navigating Careers: Insights for Students in China. The event invited three distinguished experts from various industries to share their insights and help students understand how to find their career paths in China’s job market. The event was organized by Associate Professor Dr Francesco Macheda from Department of International Studies, with Assistant Professor Dr Tingting Hu, from the Department of Media and Communication.

Dr Francesco Macheda, in his opening speech, emphasized that with globalization and China’s rapid economic development, students are facing more opportunities and challenges in their career paths. He encouraged the students to actively engage in career planning and lay a solid foundation for their future careers as early as possible.

The first speaker was Lorenzo Bail, Deputy General Manager at Pelliconi. Lorenzo discussed the expectations of international companies for fresh graduates, emphasizing the importance of adaptability, technical skills, and continuous learning. He pointed out that although career transitions are inevitable, continuous self-improvement and growth are key to maintaining competitiveness. Lorenzo also highlighted that international companies value graduates’ problem-solving abilities and innovation, particularly in fast-paced work environments.

Next, Rosa Luo, Partner at Asia Solution Corporation, shared career planning strategies for international school graduates. Rosa explained the challenges students face when entering the job market and offered guidance on how to plan a career based on personal strengths. She emphasized that cultural adaptability and cross-cultural communication skills are essential for success in the globalized job market and advised students to gain relevant internship experience early on to better prepare for their chosen industries.

Finally, Giacomo Bove, Director at Zai Shang Consulting (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., explored how to navigate a career in multinational companies in China. Giacomo stressed the importance of building a strong professional network and fostering teamwork. He noted that as the workplace continues to evolve, effective communication and flexibility are increasingly crucial, particularly in a fast-developing market like China.

Following the presentations, students actively engaged with the speakers in a Q&A session, gaining practical insights into finding internships, career paths, and how to enhance their employability.
