Dr. Ankit Garg, an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Environmental Science at the School of Science, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was recently invited as an expert speaker for the International Webinar Series on Geo-environmental Engineering. The series was organized by the University of Illinois Chicago and hosted by Distinguished Professor Krishna R. Reddy.

In his presentation, which attracted a global audience, Dr. Garg introduced a novel interdisciplinary framework. This framework merges concepts from unsaturated soil mechanics and plant physiology to help redefine how we determine the critical wilting point in plants.

The webinar also served as a platform to announce significant international collaborations and recognitions. Dr. Garg shared news of his appointment as Chairman of the newly established Asian Technical Committee on Biogeotechnics. This panel unites experts from Finland, Italy, South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia. This leadership role is complemented by Dr. Garg’s established scholarly reputation; he is listed among the world's top 2% most highly cited scientists by Stanford University, a Full Member of the British Society for Soil Science, and has received prestigious international awards including the British Telford Premium Prize from the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK) and the best paper award from the UNESCO Chair holder of Water Management in Central Asia.

Furthermore, Dr. Garg used the global forum to highlight research opportunities in the School of Science at XJTLU. He showcased the well respected and popular Bachelor, MRes and PhD programs including the Visiting Research Student Policy and the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). Dr Garg also expressed acknowledgement to Professor John Moraros, Dean, School of Science for his strong encouragement of cross-disciplinary research and support to international collaborations.
