Argentina Day Brings Football, Flavour and Culture to Life

09 Jun 2026

On 1 June, the Spanish Division celebrated Argentina Day with colour, energy and an engaging introduction to Argentine culture.

We were honoured to welcome Professor Rodrigo Herrera as our guest speaker. Professor Herrera introduced students to Argentine society and the country’s renowned football culture, offering fascinating insights into the history of football in Argentina and sharing videos of some of its most iconic moments. He also introduced a selection of football-related idioms used in everyday language, highlighting the important role that football plays in Argentine daily life and cultural identity.

Following the talk, students took part in a lively table football tournament, supporting one another as they competed for the top prizes. The winners received special Argentine souvenirs in recognition of their achievement.

The celebration continued with our Argentine lecturer, Victoria, who introduced students to a selection of traditional Argentine flavours, including warm savoury empanadas, sweet alfajores filled with caramel, and mate, the iconic herbal infusion widely enjoyed across Argentina.

To conclude the event, four lucky attendees each received an official Argentina national football team shirt, adding an exciting final moment to a memorable and enriching celebration.
