To deepen interdisciplinary integration at Xi‘an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) and create a more open  platform for academic exchange, the Inter-collegiate Academic Collaboration Workshop, hosted by the Research Centre for Excellence on Emerging Technologies and Innovation (RCE-ETI) at International Business School Suzhou (IBSS), was held on 27 May 2026.

The workshop focused on emerging technologies including large language models (LLMs), multimodal media, machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and textual analysis. Bringing together  academic staff and researches from IBSS and the Academy of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology (AIAT), the event  explored new opportunities for collaboration  at the intersection of business and artificial intelligence.

Professor Lingxiao Zhao, Associate Dean for Research at AIAT, delivered the opening remarks. He welcomed participants from both schools, emphasised the growing importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing  complex research challenges, and expressed his hope that the workshop would lead to deeper  cooperation between the IBSS and AIAT.

The workshop featured a series of research presentations highlighting the integration of technological innovation and business applications. Dr Jia Zhai, Director of RCE-ETI, introduced the development of the research centre, and outlined its  interdisciplinary research activities, including AI applications in operations, marketing, finance and economics, alongside international collaborative research projects and academic publications.

Dr Chenwei Li, Deputy Director of RCE-ETI, presented research on multimodal media and large language models across areas such as video-sharing platforms, offline retail, smart healthcare, and fake news governance. The presentation  highlighted how these technologies are already being applied in real-world settings and demonstrated their growing practical value accorss industries.

Professor Jimin Xiao from AIAT  delivered a presentation titled “Anomaly Detection with None or Limited Data”, exploring technological breakthroughs and solutions for anomaly detection in zero- and few-shot scenarios. Dr. Bo Zhao from AIAT presented “From Data to Simulation: Modelling Markets, Networks, and Cultural Change”, introducing data-driven and simulation-based modelling methods and their applications in markets, networks and cultural evolution.

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in lively discussions on future research directions and potential cooperation opportunities, helping to build stronger connections between researchers from both schools.

Professor Lixian Qian, Associate Dean for Research of IBSS, delivered the closing remarks. He praised the outcomes of the workshop, highlighted several promising  directions for interdisciplinary cooperation, and encouraged both schools to continue strengthening academic exchanges and joint research initiatives.

As an important initiative led by RCE-ETI to support interdisciplinary development, the workshop marks a new stage of collaboration between IBSS and AIAT. Looking ahead,  IBSS will continue to focus on emerging technologies and innovation, strengthening interdisciplinary research at the intersection of AI and business, and supporting the development of XJTLU’s research community through closer collaboration and knowledge exchange.
