Spanish Division hosts a Senior Argentine Judicial Delegation for a Cross-Disciplinary Dialogue at XJTLU

On 18 June 2026, XJTLU welcomed a distinguished delegation from our partner Strategic Dialogues Foundation (Argentina) for a full-day visit spanning both the University's Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) and Taicang (XEC) campuses. The programme was coordinated by the Spanish Language Division (SPA) of the Modern Languages Centre (MLC), and brought senior members of the Argentine judiciary into conversation with colleagues from across the University.

Led by Professor Rodrigo Herrera Bravo, President of the Foundation, the delegation comprised five judges and magistrates of the Judiciary of the Province of Buenos Aires, among them members of the courts of appeal of Morón and judicial officers from Mar del Plata. Their presence offered a rare opportunity to connect questions of law, governance and public authority with the University's research strengths in language, culture and technology.

The morning at the SIP campus opened with a welcome meeting hosted by MLC Representatives Dr Henghua Su, Head of the Modern Languages Centre, and Ms. Elena Jiménez, Deputy Head of Spanish Division, together with colleagues from X-Global. The session introduced the University's syntegrative education model, its schools and programmes, and its distinctive international position as a Sino-British institution. A guided tour of the North and South campuses followed, before a working lunch hosted by the Spanish Language Division and the Modern Languages Centre.

In the afternoon, the delegation was received at the XEC Taicang campus by Mr Alejandro Castellano, Head of the Spanish Language Division, and Mrs Jia Liu, Director of Business Development and Engagement. The centrepiece of the visit was a working session with the School of AI and Advanced Computing (AIAC), led by Professor Maruf Hasan, Professor Huakang Li and Professor Pascal Lefevre. The discussion ranged across some of the most current AI-related topics, including the extent to which AI might contribute to judicial reasoning, and where human judgment must remain paramount, and the opportunities and risks that artificial intelligence presents for societies, governments and legal systems over the coming decades. The exchange was notably interdisciplinary, bringing the perspectives of practising jurists to bear on the work of computer scientists, and vice versa.

The visit concluded with a tour of the XEC campus and an induction to the Innovation Factory and X3 Co-Venture led by Mr Joseph Seet, Director of Entrepreneurship and Incubation, before the delegation departed for Suzhou. For the GCLH, the visit was significant as it reaffirmed the Hub's role as a bridge between China and the Hispanic world, demonstrated how language and cultural mediation can enable substantive dialogue across disciplines and jurisdictions, and underlined the value of bringing legal, cultural and technological expertise into the same room. As XJTLU continues to deepen its international engagement, exchanges of this kind illustrate the Hub's commitment to fostering intercultural understanding and cross-disciplinary collaboration on the questions that will define the years ahead.
