PQC-X and Takagi-Takayasu Laboratory at The University of Tokyo co-organise workshop on advances in lattice and multivariate cryptanalysis

On 4 September 2026, the workshop Recent Advances in Lattice and Multivariate Cryptanalysis was held at The University of Tokyo. Jointly organised by the Post-Quantum Migration Interdisciplinary Laboratory (PQC-X) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and Takagi-Takayasu Laboratory of The University of Tokyo, the workshop brought together researchers from institutions including XJTLU, The University of Tokyo, Beijing Yanqi Lake Institute of Applied Mathematics, and the University of Louisville to exchange insights on cutting-edge topics in lattice cryptography, multivariate cryptanalysis and post-quantum security.

As post-quantum cryptography moves towards standardisation and migration, cryptanalysis remains important for evaluating the security of cryptographic schemes. The workshop provided a forum to exchange recent findings and explore new approaches and open questions in the field.
The workshop opened with a welcome address by Professor Jintai Ding, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Physics and Director of PQC-X at XJTLU. He highlighted recent breakthroughs in lattice and multivariate cryptanalysis, including new analytical approaches, computational improvements and the application of mathematical techniques from other areas.This was followed by remarks from Professor Tsuyoshi Takagi of The University of Tokyo.

Advances in cryptanalysis
The workshop featured a series of talks on lattice cryptanalysis, multivariate cryptanalysis, and related mathematical and computational methods.
Sessions on lattice cryptanalysis covered lattice reduction, the Shortest Vector Problem (SVP), cryptanalytic algorithms and security estimation, with discussions of recent methods and their implications for existing security assumptions.Talks on multivariate cryptanalysis addressed polynomial-system solving, algebraic methods and related algorithms, highlighting the role of mathematical techniques and efficient computation in cryptanalysis.

The workshop also explored classical and quantum cryptanalysis, as well as computational and memory efficiency, and considered emerging challenges and future directions in post-quantum cryptanalysis
