Dr. Hiroshi Higashiyama holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (1996) and a medical background from Shanghai Medical University (1984). With over 40 years of experience spanning clinical practice, academia, and global pharmaceutical leadership, he most recently served as CMO & General Manager of Medical Affairs Division at Daiichi Sankyo China (Apr 2020–Oct 2025).
His key career roles include APAC Region Head of Medical Affairs for multiple therapeutic areas (Oncology, Primary Care, Antithrombotic & Cardiovascular) at Daiichi-Sankyo Co., Ltd. (2010–2020), and senior leadership positions at Quintiles Transnational (1996–2001), where he led CRO operations in China and Japan. He has overseen global/regional clinical development, post-marketing studies (PMS), real-world evidence research, and IIT/CIT programs across therapeutic areas like Infectious Diseases, Cardiovascular Disease, and Oncology, covering markets in APAC, EU, and the US. Additionally, he has expertise in medical strategy, protocol development, team management (up to 50 employees), and building training/regulatory systems, with academic research experience in cardiovascular epidemiology and molecular genetics at Fudan University, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and Japan’s National Institute of Health and Nutrition. Fluent in Japanese, English, and Chinese, his strengths lie in global leadership, cross-border communication, and integrating medical-epidemiological knowledge with global project/organization management.
