Course Delivery
22 June – 3 July 2026, Monday to Friday (10 instructional days)
Daily Schedule:
-Morning Session (10:00 – 12:00) Language-focused classes
-Afternoon Session (13:00 – 15:00) Culture-focused experiential workshops
Total contact hours: 40 hours
The programme follows a progressive immersion model where structured language learning in the morning is followed by cultural application in the afternoon.

Programme Structure
Japanese summer courses consist of two coordinated tracks delivered in parallel.
Japanese Culture Immersion Course
This track is designed for beginners and participants with little or no prior Japanese language experience.
Morning sessions introduce basic Japanese communication skills, including pronunciation, survival expressions, and everyday interaction.
Afternoon sessions focus on Japanese cultural themes through workshops and interactive learning experiences.
Topics may include:
- Japanese architecture and lifestyle
- Anime and visual storytelling
- Japanese cuisine and dining culture
- Kimono and contemporary fashion
- Ikebana and traditional aesthetics
- Graphic design and visual culture
- Festivals and collective cultural expression
The aim of this programme is to provide a culturally rich introduction to Japan while offering participants a meaningful first step into the Japanese language.
Japanese Language Enhancement Course
This track is designed for learners who already have a basic knowledge of Japanese and want to strengthen their language proficiency.
The programme focuses on helping learners progress toward the CEFR A2 level and maintain their language development after introductory courses.
Morning sessions focus on:
- grammar and sentence structures
- functional communication skills
- vocabulary expansion
- listening and speaking practice
Afternoon cultural sessions are shared with the Culture Immersion track, allowing students to apply their language skills in authentic cultural contexts.
The programme encourages learners to develop independence and confidence in their Japanese learning journey.

At the end of the programme, participants will have:
- Improved their Japanese listening and speaking skills
- Gained confidence in communicating in Japanese

Overview
The XJTLU Japanese Summer Courses 2026 are two-week on-campus programmes that combine Japanese language learning with immersive cultural experiences.
Hosted by the Modern Languages Centre in the Global Cultures and Languages Hub, the programmes offer a unique opportunity to explore Japanese language, society, and creative culture through an integrated learning approach.
Participants will attend language sessions in the morning and cultural workshops in the afternoon, creating a dynamic learning environment where language skills are immediately applied in meaningful cultural contexts.
